Mental Health Helps

Happy Monday everyone!  These are the final few days of NaBloPoMo (seriously, where did the month go?) and today I'm going to be taking one of the official prompts  and sharing my thoughts on it.  This was actually the very first prompt that was shared this year, and I've been waiting to share this post since then! The prompt is: When you're having a bad day with your mental health, what do you do to help yourself? Read a Book or Magazine I'm not someone who reads a ton, even though I really enjoy it.  I like to read on the bus to pass the time, but if I'm at home I feel like I'm wasting time or should be doing something else.  It feels indulgent to me, so whenever I'm feeling down or need a pick-me-up I'll settle in with a good book (usually something trashy and embarrassing) or work on my huge stack of magazines.  Right now I'm subscribed to Outside, Health, Runners World, Glamour and People Magazine (thank you airline miles) and can...

Netflix Favorites

Oh, Netflix.  I have such a love/hate relationship with you.  On one hand, you give me unlimited hours of happiness and joy, learning about new subjects or getting inspired.  On the other, you make staying in bed all day seem perfectly normal, and can make hours mysteriously disappear.  And don't even get me started on your "Are you still watching?" pop-up.  RUDE. Today I'm sharing a few of my favorites from Netflix, from TV shows to movies and a few documentaries that I love.  Please share your favorites as well, because I'm always looking for something new to get into! TV Shows Chopped (2009-present) American reality-based cooking television game show series which pits four chefs against each other as they compete for a chance to win $10,000.  The chefs must attempt to incorporate unusual combinations of ingredients into dishes that are evaluated by a panel of three judges. Black Mirror (2011-present) British televisi...

Let's Talk About Burnout

Image
Today I'm here to talk about every runner's favorite subject- burnout. I've always liked to race a lot.  Races are the best kind of speed work for me- they always bring out the best in me and the competition brings out a different side of me that I just can't get alone.  So, every year I always sign up for a ton of races throughout the year.  I don't pay attention to timing or recovery- I just want to race a lot.  Plus- if nothing else it always gave me lots of blog content ;) For the past few years, this has worked out great for me.  I always looked forward to racing and training for races.  It didn't matter if I had a race every week- I was always excited! This year things seemed to change for me.  I made a goal to run more races, but there were a lot of other changes going on in my life.  Dan and I bought a house and moved out of the city, we got married, and I got a new job.  I didn't think that any of these things would reall...

Oprah's Favorite Things : My Picks

Image
Thank goodness for the weekend!  I usually don't post on Saturdays, but since I'm doing NaBloPoMo this year, I'm excited to share more fun content that I usually leave off my blog.  Today it's going to be something completely random- we're talking about Oprah's Favorites! Every year, Oprah releases her list of "favorites" just in time for holiday shopping.  Recently, these favorites have been on Amazon, making it really easy to create a wish list and buy everything all at once.  I went through the list (which you can find here ) and picked out my favorites.  I hope you enjoy! Talbot's Puffer Vest  - I love wearing vests this time of year, and this one is simple but comes in lots of fun colors! Pasta Pot  - I make pasta all of the time, and this would make my life so much easier Mini Bluetooth Speaker  - How adorable are these speakers?!  They're pretty afforadable too, so I might pick up a pair for myself! Powerbeats3 Wireless Headp...

NaBloPoMo (Alternative Title- Let's Get Personal)

Image
Before I get into the meat of this post, I want to share a little about NaBloPoMo ...aka National Blog Posting Month!  Pretty simple concept- for the entire month of November, you have to blog every day.  This is a challenge that I've never done before, and never heard of until I saw San's post, but I decided to jump right in. There are daily prompts for ideas of what to write about.  Some days I'll follow the prompts, and other days I'll just post what I was normally going to.  Just be prepared- these posts aren't going to be polishes or perfect- I'm going to be speaking from my heart and trying to get a bit more deep.  I don't usually share my personal life or thoughts here, so hopefully these prompts will show more about me. Today's prompt is- When was the last time you did something brave? What happened?  This is a tough question for me to answer.  I'm sure that most people are going to talk about a time that they went bungee jumping...
