Cooking from Books - Molly Baz

Image
Hello hello! Today we're talking food again- specifically about cookbooks. I mentioned in my monthly goals that I've been going through a bit of a cooking slump and in order to get over that, I've been borrowing cookbooks from the library. Trying different cuisines and recipes from chefs always helps to inspire me, and I feel like I'm back in the cooking game! I'll be sharing a full day of eats from different cookbooks that I'm trying out, and today we're going to start out with Molly Baz's Cook This Book. I've been following Molly for a while and love her low-key approach to cooking. I knew this would be a fun cookbook and was definitely right! One of my favorite parts of this book is how interactive it is- there are QR codes sprinkled throughout which bring up videos to demonstrate some cooking techniques. I learned a lot from these and got to practice new skills and play with new flavors.  Here are some of the recipes I tried out along with my tho...

Cooking from Cookbooks : Vegan for Everybody

Image
Hi everyone and welcome back to another delicious post. In the past, I've shared about trying out recipes from different blogs (you can find all of the posts here ), and today we'll be slightly switching things up and cooking from a cookbook - Vegan for Everybody from America's Test Kitchen. My friend and fellow blogger Alexa lent me this book, and now I'm planning on purchasing it myself after trying out a few recipes! (PS- you can see her review of the book here ).  I absolutely loved this cookbook! Not only did it make cooking vegan seem approachable, but also had explanations of why  each recipe worked or why certain ingredients/steps were included. It helped to reignite my passion for cooking vegan food (which has been kind of waning in the past year with wanting to make more comfort food). I can't wait to buy this for myself and try out all the recipes. Here's a look at the recipes that I tried out for a full day of meals, along with my thoughts on each d...

Cooking from Blogs : Edgy Veg

Image
Welcome back to another edition of Cooking from Blogs ! Today we're diving into something completely different and getting a bit edgy ...that is the Edgy Veg. This is another new-to-me blog that seems to focus more on turning regular omnivore comfort/fast foods into vegan versions. I've seen everything from vegan KFC to dippy eggs on this blog! My meals for this week will be a bit different- there weren't really any side dishes that I could try out, so I just made a few different dishes on different days to test a variety of options from the blog. It wasn't cohesive and was definitely an experience (um..rice paper bacon???) - keep reading to see how it went! Breakfast :  Vegan Smoked Salmon Author's Photo : My Photo : For the past few years, I've tried pretty much every vegan smoked salmon recipe out there. I've had varying levels of success, and I think with this one I've finally found my holy grail. Not only is the process really...

Cooking from Blogs : Sweet Potato Soul

Image
Hi Everyone! I'm back today with the next installment of my Cooking from Blogs series- it's been a while but I'm excited to share some recipes from Sweet Potato Soul . When I first started to eat more plant-based and testing out the vegan lifestyle four years ago, this was actually one of the first blogs / youtube channels that I found. All of the recipes looked so approachable and delicious, and I'm happy to say that I still make a lot of Jenné's recipes now. I haven't done any of these posts since Quarantine started- I haven't been shopping much, and was trying to buy things as shelf-stable as possible to put of going to the grocery store more than once a month. But- as I was flipping through Jenné's instagram, I realized that a lot of her recipes incorporate pantry staples and used ingredients that I had on hand. As usual, I'll be sharing a breakfast, lunch, and dinner (as well as a snack) that I cooked following this blog's recipes. Let'...

Cooking from Blogs : Lazy Cat Kitchen

Image
Hi everyone and welcome back! Today I'm posting part three of my Cooking from Blogs series (find the others here !) with a blog that was completely new to me- Lazy Cat Kitchen . This was sent over to me from Alexa, and as soon as I checked it out I became an instant fan. The recipes were interesting and sounded so fresh! I was so excited to try it out. Once again, I'm going to share a full day of eats with all of you. I tried a breakfast and lunch for the week (sharing my food prep tips in there reviews below), along with a three part dinner.  Keep reading to see how I liked the week of eats! Breakfast :   Healthy Date Bars Author's Photo : My Photo :  I have mixed feelings about this. It was very easy to make and used up a ton of ingredients I'm trying to get rid of in my February pantry challenge, and worked great as a snack after my morning workout. I also appreciated the fact that there wasn't a ton of sugar in this (just some maple sy...

Cooking from Blogs : Budget Bytes

Image
Hi everyone and welcome back! Today I'm posting part two of my Cooking from Blogs series, and we'll be diving into one of my favorites- Budget Bytes. There are so many reasons I love this blog- not only are the recipes easy to follow, feature common ingredients, and always taste great- but they also are all budget friendly as the name implies! Anytime I want to watch how much I'm spending, I immediately turn to this blog for inspiration. Once again, I'm going to share a full day of eats with all of you. I actually had the same breakfast and lunch everyday for the week (both were easy to meal prep for work, but more on that in my reviews), and my dinner was a combination of three recipes.  Enjoy! Breakfast :   Mango Coconut Chia Pudding Author's Photo : My Photo :  This was a surprising hit! There are so few ingredients that I didn't think it would have much of a taste, but this is a perfect breakfast for me. I usually can't eat much in...

Cooking from Blogs : Love + Lemons

Image
Hi everyone and Happy Monday! Today I'm going to be starting a new series I'm calling "Cooking from Blogs". With it being a new year, a lot of people (including me) are trying to cook more at home to save money and eat healthier! To help inspire myself- I've been pinning recipes from blogs like crazy . The only thing is, I end up not making the majority of these recipes, go back to recipes I've made hundreds of times before, and before long am buying veggie lo mein or pizza because I have nothing  to eat at home! So- to help inspire myself (and hopefully a few of you!) I'll be trying out a full day of recipes from some of my favorite blogs, as well as a few new ones that I've recently discovered! Up first is Love + Lemons , which was recommended by my friend Alexa (spoiler alert- I'll be covering her blog in a future post!). After hearing her rave about this blog, I had to try it out. Here's how the day of eats went. Breakfast :   Overnig...
