To the beach!

Image
This was a very interesting week- lots of travel and some family visit- and I took it pretty easy from my workouts! I definitely needed the rest and my body let me know. I had a hard time waking up and just wanted to sleep the entire week away!  Here's what the easy(ish) week looked like for me-  Monday Beach Walks Dan and I left bright and early to go to the beach, and once we got about a half hour away our car broke down! Luckily we were able to pull over to the side of the road safely and were able to get a tow truck take it to a dealer and an Uber to take us to a rental car and continue on our way. Our day wasn't ruined though- we still visited the beach and a farmer's market. Tuesday 10 mile bike ride Our car was still in the shop (and we found out it will probably be there for months since the parts needed are in a national back order) but we were able to spend the day on Bald Head Island! There's a ferry that takes you over from the main land, and there are no ca

Toasty Week of Tri Training

Image
It might just be the first day of summer today, but it definitely felt like we were in the middle of it last week! I managed to keep my training going, and even motivated me to wake up and get my workouts done early in the morning (besides a few exceptions, which were worth it to see friends). Here's how the week went- Monday 500 yard swim Morning swim was nice and easy today and I was joined by my friend Karena and Dan! It was much more enjoyable going with others but we definitely took a lot of chatting breaks. Going to try to make this a weekly thing! 30 min bike This week is going to be a HOT one so I opted to do an indoor bike workout. It's been a while since I've used my Schwinn so it was nice to take a class! I did two easy classes with Cody on the Peloton app and it was lots of fun. Tuesday 4 mile run High for today is over 100 so an early morning run was a must! Dan joined me for the first mile and then I kept going. Even though it was already warm and humid I felt

Triathlon Round 2

Image
Good morning everyone! I'm so excited today to share that I'm starting to train for my second triathlon. If you remember a LONG time ago I did a local sprint race and had a great time training and completing it. I knew that I wanted to do another one, and I found one at Wrightsville Beach at the end of September that I'm planning on doing! Here's how my first "official" week of training went- Monday 2 mile run/walk I had a really busy and active weekend, so I was originally going to take today off. But- Dan asked me to go for a run with him and I can never turn that down! We did a slow 2 miles with some walk breaks at the start, middle, and end. It was a great way to shake out some soreness I had! Tuesday 500 yard swim Went for a swim in the morning! I want to say this was nice and easy, but this was only my second swim in years so it felt really tough! Last week I went on my first swim and did 500 yards and I was happy to see that I was a few minutes faster

May Reads and Reviews

Image
May was another great month for reading! Since much of my time was spent moving, I enjoyed relaxing at the end of the day with a good book. This month was a huge mix of genres and ratings- I gave my first one star review but also read one of my favorite books (definitely my favorite so far this year). Here's what I read- Beautiful World, Where Are You by Sally Rooney Note- this won Goodread's Best Fiction of 2021 Alice, a novelist, meets Felix, who works in a warehouse, and asks him if he’d like to travel to Rome with her. In Dublin, her best friend, Eileen, is getting over a break-up and slips back into flirting with Simon, a man she has known since childhood. Alice, Felix, Eileen, and Simon are still young—but life is catching up with them. They desire each other, they delude each other, they get together, they break apart. They have sex, they worry about sex, they worry about their friendships and the world they live in. Are they standing in the last lighted room before the

June Goals and Highlights

Image
It's so hard to believe that it's June, probably because the last two months flew by! We've been really busy with getting our apartment moved out and cleaned and trying to make our new house feel like a home. Like most people, we've been hit with shipping delays, so we have a lot of stuff picked out to furnish our house and are just waiting for them!  There are a lot of little highlights from the month but nothing really big that happened, since most of our energy has been spent moving. Probably the best thing is that we've been meeting a lot of our neighbors and went to our first get-together and had the best time. Having people around us that we like and are friendly was one of the most important parts of picking a place and we're so lucky to have great people all around us! I think we're going to be very happy here. Let's talk goals, starting with my annual goal check-in. Spend More Time Outdoors 1000 Hours Outside  - January - 54 total hours, breakin
