Top Five Friday #52

Hey guys!  Happy Friday!  First of all, I want to wish all of you tons of luck who are running Pittsburgh this weekend (or doing any other races!).  I always seem to be busy the week of the Pittsburgh marathon, but I'm hoping to participate again next year.  I'll be wishing a dry and cool weekend for you all, and can't wait for all of the race recaps!

Now, onto some favorites from the week!  This might be one of the most random collections of favorites I've ever shared..I have some products, apps, news stories, and more to share.  I hope you enjoy, and have a fantastic weekend!

Linking up with MarCynthia and Court

Face Masks

One of my guilty pleasures is putting on a face mask at the end of the night and watching Netflix.  I love all different kinds of masks, but my favorite are sheet masks!  I ordered this variety pack of Korean sheet masks on Amazon, and I'm obsessed.  To be honest, I haven't noticed a huge change in my skin when I use them, but they're a nice little treat and help to moisturize your skin!

Periscope

I love trying out new apps, and right now my favorite one is Periscope!  While I've never personally 'scoped, I love watching other people and interacting with them while they're broadcasting live.  Some of my favorite scopes to watch are "get ready with me", where a makeup guru will scope as they get ready for the day.  If you're looking for a great one to watch I would recommend Samantha Ravndahl, who is hilarious and also an amazing makeup artist!

Kelly Ripa

In case you haven't heard, Kelly Ripa's co-host on her morning talk show, Michael Strahan, just announced that he was leaving the show to work full-time at Good Morning America.  Apparently this wasn't shared with Kelly before the news went public.  She took a few days off the show, then once she came back, she addressed the controversy and the reasons why she took off.

I've always been a huge fan of Kelly's, and have tuned into the morning show back when it was with Regis and Kathie Lee.  You can tell that Kelly becomes very close with her co-hosts and they almost seem like family.  I know this situation must have been really tough, so I think Kelly handled it with grace and comedy like everything she does.  Now I'm just excited to see who will take Michael's place!

Eyebrow Threading

I have pretty thick eyebrows that can get unruly very quickly.  I've always had them waxed a few times a year to get a good shape, and then pluck them in between visits.  About a year ago though, I switched over to threading and haven't looked back!

Both cost about the same (around $15), but threading is a lot faster, looks a lot more natural, and lasts just as long.  The only downside is that it's a pretty painful process (but it's over really quickly) but I'm obsessed- just look at the before and after for proof!  (P.S. I go to Miracle Eyebrows in Ross Park Mall!)

Dancing With the Stars

Life has been so hectic lately that I haven't been watching a ton of TV, but I have been keeping up with DWTS!  My favorites from the beginning have been Nyle, Paige, Wayna and Antonio- they're all still doing great!  This season there aren't really any people that I dislike or think are bad dancers.  I feel like everyone who's left could easily end up winning, but I'm going to call Nyle for the win.

This Week on Gretch@Home

I honestly love the kitchen as it is, but I'm excited to work on a few projects to make it *mine*!  I share some inspiration and what my plans are for my little kitchen!

Tell me about your week!
What do you have planned this weekend?

  1. Love the white cabinets in the kitchen- going to check out the rest of your plans for the space now! I am heading to Vermont for a sponsored trip including a relay half marathon. The Broad Street Run is going on in Philly this weekend too so a big race weekend in PA!

  2. I love what Kelly Ripa said too. I was able to go to the show a few years ago and was in awe of how good she is at her job. I had my eyebrows threaded once and it hurt so much! I typically get them waxed every 4-6 weeks.

  3. i LOVE threading. i did a post on it last year and ppl were so against it! maybe now they'll think about it after reading yours!! that kelly and michael stuff was such a mess. it is the nature of the business, but that wasn't cool how it went down. sounds like a silver lining all around!!

    1. Oh wow! People I know either love it too or have never heard of it haha. I wonder why people would be against it?

  4. I've been hearing the Kelly & Michael drama. I like them together, but rarely get to watch the show. But I do remember watching Regis & Kelly back in the day during summer break.

I don't do anything to my eyebrows. Not because they don't need it, but just because I have no idea what I'm doing. I don't have a stylist of my own or anything, so I don't just like get it done when I get my hair cut. But Lord knows I won't do anything to them on my own. So maybe I'll try threading. I hate the growing back part with waxing.

    1. You should definitely try threading! It doesn't come in quite as quickly as waxing and it looks much more natural to me since they go hair by hair.

  5. Unfortunately, eyebrow threading/waxing near me as at least $20, so I don't get it done very often. I did get mine threaded once and remember it being such an odd feeling! This weekend I'm doing the Nashville Country Music Half Marathon and hopefully relaxing the rest of the time!

    1. It's definitely a bit of a splurge for me too so I usually only go twice or three times a year! Good luck at your race :)

  6. I don't think I could ever do eyebrow threading. Sounds painful! Those face masks sound nice. I should try those out.

    1. Luckily it only hurts in the moment, so I can put up with a few minutes of pain!

  7. Your kitchen is adorable. I am sooooo excited about our new place. This weekend will be about PACKING. And getting distracted from packing. You know me.

  8. Cute kitchen! I've heard of eyebrow threading. I've never got my brows professionally done. Ever since I heard fuller is the trend, I took that as permission to not care as much, ha ha. Have a GREAT weekend!!!!

    1. Thank you Jennifer! I wish I didn't have to do anything but I would have a unibrow and they would grow into my hair haha. They grow SO fast..which is guess is a good thing since thick is in!

  9. I only get my eyebrows threaded. I used to get mine waxed years ago but I got a really bad burn one time and stopped doing it. Threading is better for my skin. I don't think it's too much more painful than waxing, so it's worth it. I always get yelled at for tweezing in between though ha

    1. Same here! And I always get a bad reaction to the products they use. I'm glad that the pain in threading is very short (just when they're pulling) and then it's over quickly.

  10. I love periscope too. I don't scope, but I love watching other people scope. I LOVE Kelly Ripa. She is so classy. I am very curious to see who her new cohost will be! Have a great weekend!

  11. I'm a huge Kelly Ripa fan too! I had a few days off work last month and I was way too excited to watch the show each morning haha. This weekend I'm running a 5k and hanging out with Paul's parents who are coming to town!

  12. I'm the same way - I've been watching Kelly forever, and before that used to watch Regis and Kathy lee with my mom. I haven't watched in a while and somehow missed all of this drama (hello, babies and a tv permanently set to Disney, ha!) but I'm mildly embarrassed about how excited I am to go look it all up.

  13. I do love Periscope. It's one I always want to have more reason to use. I also tend to forget about it until after the fact for times that would be great for it.

  14. DWTS is my show to watch while I'm on the treadmill or bike. I haven't been on either lately so I'm way behind. I miss it! Thanks for linking up to High 5 Friday!

  15. I love your cute little kitchen! Simple, clean lines, those things make me so happy.

  16. I totally loved the way Kelly Ripa handled herself as well - as always, such a classy but powerful woman.

  17. I need to check out those face masks! I ordered a pack of 11 Tony Moly masks from Amazon for about $10 before leaving on our trip. They've been great to use about every week and get some moisture on my skin.

  18. Ooh, I don't know if you got to see this week's DWTS but I think Nyle hurt himself with his comments and got a little over-confident. I'll be interested to see if/how he recovers next week! I can't decide whether I want to try periscope or not! I'm afraid of getting sucked into yet another time-draining social media!
