Good morning and Happy Monday! This was such a great and busy week for me- so many fun outdoor activities including a new favorite bike path and the most amazing kayaking spot. I also got to hang out with some new friends and watch LOTS of Olympics! Here's a look at my week in workouts- Monday 10 mile Bike Ride Kicked off the week on a great note with a morning bike ride. We started at Black Creek greenway and rode out to Lake Crabtree. We stayed on the trail by the lake for a bit, taking in the sights before heading back. We got to see a ton of cranes relaxing in the water and it was so beautiful! I really liked this trail- it goes right along a creek the entire way and had some really gorgeous sections. It was completely shaded the entire time so I think it would be a great place to run. 20 min Classical Run with Becs Fun and quick run in the woods at Apex Nature Park. Somehow I got lost on the trails and ended up in a neighborhood down the road from the park entrance so it was a...

July Reads and Reviews

Image
For some reason, July was a really good reading month for me. I'm not typically one to read a book a week, but this month I managed it. I had all kinds of genres as well- a romance, thriller, drama, and celebrity memoir. I would highly recommend all of these (except for the one book I did not finish). Enjoy! Life's Too Short by Abby Jimenez Vanessa lives life on her own terms — one day at a time, every day to its fullest. She isn’t willing to waste a moment or miss out on an experience when she has no idea whether she shares the same fatal genetic condition as her mother. Besides, she has way too much to do, traveling the globe and showing her millions of YouTube followers the joy in seizing every moment. But after her half-sister suddenly leaves Vanessa in custody of her infant daughter, she is housebound, on mommy duty for the foreseeable future, and feeling totally out of her element. The last person she expects to show up offering help is the unbelievably hot lawyer who liv...

August Goals and Highlights

Image
Good morning!! It's been a minute since I've had a goal post (or even gave myself structured goals), but I'm finally feeling settled in our new home in North Carolina. I didn't want to push myself to do too much and burn out (which unfortunately is a very common thing for me..downfall of being an Enneagram 7) but I'm ready to get back to having a routine and things to work on.  There are so many things that I could have as my highlight of July, from exploring our new town to making new friends, but it was probably going to Myrtle Beach with my family for a week! I don't know if we've all spent that much time together since I graduated college, and we got to have a lot of fun together. Plus, I got to spend a ton of time with my nephew and even got him to say my name (I had him call me GG since that's easier to pronounce than Gretchen). It was a great trip! Now let's see how my annual goals are doing! 2021 Combined Miles January -  44 running miles and...

Stress Relief

Image
Happy Monday! This was a long and stressful week at work for me, so I kept it a little easier in terms of workouts. I just didn't feel like I had the energy to do much other than taking it easy and having runs with some new friends. Here's a look at my week- Monday 10 min Yoga Flow with Kirra Hit yoga class #200 this morning (no shoutout though, boo!). My shoulders were super sore from yesterday's class so I took this one pretty easy and skipped out on some of the more advanced moves like Rockstar. Kirra is such a fun instructor though and I love her personality in the classes. 30 min Speak Up Ride with Tunde I was excited to see this class back on the schedule after a bit- even though I know these classes are tough (physically) they inspire me so much mentally and help me really think about my actions. Tunde has a way to break down what's going on in the world and how to be a better person in such simple terms- one of my favorite quotes that she shared during the ride ...

You're My Sunflower

Good morning and Happy Monday! This week felt like one of those weeks that felt so full and busy- when I was looking back through this post I couldn't believe this was all from earlier this week. It seemed so long ago! I guess that's a good sign that I'm settling in here- I'm finally feeling busy and like I have fun things to fill my week with. Here's a look at how my (busy and fun) week went with workouts- Monday 45 min 90s Bike Bootcamp with Jess Made it to my first bike bootcamp in quite a while. This wasn't my favorite class ever- I felt kind of distracted the whole time but got through it. Need to get back in the habit of doing one of these every week because they add so much to my routine! Tuesday 3 mile Run Went out at lunchtime for a run, and decided to check out two parks. I started at Hemlock Bluffs, which is a beautiful park with trails going through the woods. Then I hopped on the Swift Creek Greenway which took me to Harold Ritter park for a quick l...

Sunnyside Up

Hi and good morning! I spent most of my week in South Carolina with my family in Myrtle Beach. It was a lot of fun but also exhausting! My sister has a toddler and let me tell you...he has a lot of energy. I had a great time with them but also managed to have a semi-regular workout schedule. Here's what the week looked like and a peak into some of the fun things we did- Monday 20 min Foundations of Movement with Kristin Trying to keep a little bit of my normal routine while I'm away, so I started my day with my yoga program. This one was all about learning how to balance, which is my favorite type of class! We had all kinds of movements, from standing to beginner crow. 45 min Power Walk with Matty Made it outside for a walk at lunchtime. I took a lap around the golf course where we're staying and it started to mist a little while I was out- felt so refreshing and made my walk so much better! This playlist was all female singers and was such a great mix of genres.  Once my s...

Running Around

Image
Happy Monday everyone! I have an exciting few weeks- my mom was in town this week to visit, and then we headed to the beach to meet up with my sister. I still had lots of workouts that I squeezed in and some active time together. Here's what the week looked like- Monday 30 min Walk + Run with Adrian Lunch run around the lake and into some neighborhoods to explore a bit. It felt great to have a few walk breaks since it was pretty warm at lunch, and I really liked how this class was set up. There were longer running sections followed by short walks which is just what I like instead of a straight 50/50 split. Tuesday 2 mile Hike Dan and I met up with my mom at the Nature Park for a nice walk in the woods. It was pretty hot out and we had Selma, so I was trying to finish up quickly and get her back in the shade. Even though she loves being out in the heat and going on long walks, I get so nervous about her over heating and make sure she drinks lots of water the entire time we're ou...
