Wednesday Reviews : Allure Beauty Box [Makeup]

Happy Wednesday friends! I'll be doing my normal Wednesday Review today with a bit of a twist. Last week, I received my Allure Beauty Thrills box (bought with my own money) and wanted to review it. The box comes out quarterly and is stuffed full of tons of products. The value on this box is insane (over $200 worth for around $50...what!?) so I knew I wanted to pick it up and share reviews of everything!

I'll be reviewing this box in three parts so that each post isn't too long.  Today we'll start out with makeup, and in the next two weeks I'll also review the skincare and hair products.  I hope you enjoy!

Nails

Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy Nail Enamel and Top Coat : This formula is amazing!  I have two other shades of the Gel Envy polish, so I was excited to add another color to my collection.  This shade (Beginner's Luck) looks like mother of pearl on the nails and is perfect for an elegant, classy manicure.  The polish stayed on my fingers for a week with no chipping!

Butter London Nail Lacquer : This shade (Violet's Revenge) is really gorgeous!  It applied nicely and went on smoothly.  Unfortunately, it did start to chip after a few days of wear (which is normal for me.)  I think this would be a great toenail color as well!  It took me two coats to get all of the streaks out, but it dried really quickly

Sonia Kashuk Nail Colour: This is another really pretty color (Jewel Orchid) and will be perfect for the fall time!  I haven't tried any Sonia Kashuk polishes before, but I liked this one a lot.   It was pretty much opaque in the first coat and looked AMAZING even though I'm not the best at doing nails.  It just looked really smooth with no streaks or skips in the polish.  Highly recommend checking out this line!

Here are the colors on my nails, from left (Revlon, Sonia Kashuk, Butter London).  All have two coats.

Eyes

IT Cosmetics Hello Lashes Clinically Proven 5-in-1 Volumizing Mascara : I think that I've found a new holy-grail mascara!  This is an absolutely amazing mascara- from the brush to the formula.  The brush combs through lashes without ever clumping them, and somehow adds length and volume with no problem at all.  There's also a spiky tip that helps get inner and outer lashes and add extra volume to the base of the lashes.  I absolutely love this mascara and I'm so glad to try it!

Revlon ColorStay 16 Hour Eye Shadow : I wasn't really a fan of these shadows.  The two lightest shades were both really sheer on the eyelids and applied patchy.  I'm not really a blue eyeshadow girl, so I really only like this palette for the darker brown shadow, which is a perfect shade to put in your crease.  This might be a good palette to throw in my luggage during a trip, but other than that I don't see myself reaching for this.

Lips

Milani Color Statement Moisture Matte Lipstick : I really like how smooth and creamy this lipstick is, but the shade (fearless) is super dark!  I wear darker lipsticks in the fall and winter, but this is almost black on me.  I tried to apply it lightly and blend in, but that made it look really patchy.  I'll keep playing around with this, but I might have to try another shade in this range.  What do you think- do I pull off the vampy look?
Revlon ColorStay Overtime Lipcolor : On the other hand, this shade is really springy and pretty.  I really liked how it looked when I applied it.  Unfortunately, it started to flake off my lips and looked horrible after only an hour!  You're supposed to reapply the clear gloss as needed, but that didn't help either.  It's a shame the formula is horrible because it looked beautiful when I first applied it!

Here is what all of the colors look like swatched on my hand!  Left is the Milani lipstick, right is the Revlon lipgloss, and going down are the eye shadow colors.

Overall, I was divided on the makeup products in this season's box.  I am in love with the mascara, and will get a lot of use out of the nail polish.  On the other hand, the eye shadows were a disappointment, as was the lipgloss.  The lipstick may take some getting used to but I really enjoy the formula.

Did anyone else get the Allure beauty box?  What did you think?
How can I pull off the vampy lipstick look?  Or is it a lost cause!?

  1. I just signed up for my first beauty box and then after cleaning out my bathroom and finding lots of extra stuff, I wondered why I even signed up. O well, it should be a fun surprise!

    1. I know what you mean! I used to subscribe to tons of boxes, and had so many products that I never used. I finally quit all of them and only get this one. It's great because it has lots of useful products that I buy all the time (toothpastes, body wash, lotion, etc) so it's definitely worth it to me. Plus, it only comes out once a season which is perfect!

  2. I love that pearly Revlon nail polish. I'm going to try that! I usually don't wear nail polish but now I have a sparkly ring to show off. :) Also, my hands look like little old lady hands and some nail polish might help me out a bit.

    1. Thank you so much Kristen! I'm not really a fan either and wouldn't buy a color like this myself, but it was fun to try out! Not sure if I would actually wear it out. I'll definitely check out that color because these feel (and smell) AMAZING!!
