Winter Wish List

Without a doubt, my seasonal wish lists have been my favorite posts to plan and write.  I get to do some virtual window shopping, and figure out what I want to buy that season.  Sometimes I do end up buying a few items on my wish list (for example, I picked up these capris, this bag, this romper, and this shadow), but mostly it's just fun to dream!

I'm really excited to share my final wish list of the year- Winter!  While winter is not my favorite season (I'm much more of a summer lover), the fashion is my absolute favorite.  Who wouldn't love big, cozy sweaters and sweat pants to camouflage holiday tummy?  On the other end of the spectrum, I also love getting dressed up in the most glitzy, glittery outfit possible for holiday parties!

I hope you enjoy taking a look at my Winter Wish List, and I would love to know what's on yours!
If you missed any of my other wish list posts, check them out here: (fall, summer, spring).

Keeping Active

Base Layer

As I mentioned yesterday, layering is essential for staying warm when the temperature dips below freezing.  The first layer you wear should be tight fitting, whicking, and lightweight.  There's nothing worse than building up a sweat and being trapped in a non-breathable fabric, so make sure your base layer will keep you dry and warm!

Save: HM Wool Base Layer Top
Splurge: Lululemon Swiftly Long Sleeve

Mid Layer

The next layer helps to keep you warm.  On days when it's dry and not too cold out, this may be the only other layer that you need!  Some days I even wear a tank top or short sleeve base layer under a pullover, so this layer can be very versatile.  That doesn't mean that you have to invest a lot of money- just find a piece that is warm, comfortable, and it can't hurt if it's cute!

Save: Forever 21 Cowl Neck Pullover
Splurge: Gap Printed Pullover

Top Layer

The final layer is something that I never want to pull out, because it means that it's really cold out or it's raining and/or snowing.  For the top layer, you'll want to find something that will keep you dry.  The last thing that I want is cold water to drip down my back during a run, so this layer is really important.  Lately I've been loving vests because they keep my core warm while my arms can move regularly, but I've also heard amazing things about Brooks's newest jacket!  They're based in Seattle, so if this jacket passed their test, it's got to be good.

Save: Old Navy Hooded Frost Free Vest
Splurge: Brooks Seattle Shell Jacket

Bottom

For me, tops are much more important than bottoms.  My legs tend to heat up quickly once I start running, so I've never invested much money into tights.  I have a few pairs from Target that I've worn for the past few years, and I finally decided to invest in a pair of Lululemon tights to add to my rotation.  These tights are so cozy and cute, I want to wear them all the time!  Once the temperature starts to dip, wearing these might be my only motivation to get out the door, so the price is justified for me!

Save: Target C9 Performance Leggings
Splurge: Lululemon Toasty Tech Tights

Accessory

It doesn't matter if I run before or after work lately- I'm always running in the dark.  Being visible is extremely important, so I've picked up a few reflective pieces as well as lights.  Having a reflective vest is great because it can go over any top that you currently own!  These gloves are also great because they'll keep your hands really warm, but are from Brooks's high visibility line, so they can also keep you safer!

Save: Amphipod Xinglet Lite
Splurge: Brooks Drift Gloves

Holiday Party

Little Black (lace) Dress

I absolutely love anything that's lace- whether it's a shirt, skirt or dress.  I think they're perfect for a holiday party, because they look beautiful and can be dressed up or down with the right accessories.  I have been lusting over both of these dresses, and you just can't beat the price of the HM one!

Save: HM Lace Dress
Splurge: Kimchi Blue Lacey Tee Dress

Sparkly Shoes

I can always use some sparkle in my life, and the holidays are the perfect excuse to pull out those ridiculous, over-the-top shoes!  I prefer wearing flats, but I also think that sparkly pumps are perfect for the season.  Just make sure they're comfortable, since you'll probably end up dancing the night away!

Save: Target Vanessa Ballet Flat
Splurge: Tieks Romantic Blush

Statement Necklace

If you've ever seen my fashion picks during my Friday posts, you know that I'm a big lover of statement necklaces.  I think that both of these necklaces would be perfect for a party, but I would also wear them with a camisole and a blazer at work!

Save: Forever 21 Rhinestone Bib Necklace
Splurge: Baublebar Sugarplum Collar

Blingy Bag

Let's just round out the crazy sparkles with a bag.  One of my favorite sayings is "why be subtle" - and when you wear this much bling no one will call you subtle!  I don't think I've ever seen a bag quite as cute as the one from Kate Spade, but the Zara purse is much more classy and (dare I say) subtle!

Save: Zara Sparkle Mini Messenger
Splurge: Kate Spade Glitter Bug Crossbody

Cozy @ Home

Fun Pajamas

I love the feeling of coming home from work and changing into a comfortable pair of pajamas.  What could be more cozy than a onesie in the winter!?  I am in love with the adorable jumpsuit from Forever 21, which looks so warm and cuddly.  The one from J Crew is a lot more fashionable, but also looks comfortable for a night in!

Save: Forever 21 Hooded Plush PJ Jumpsuit
Splurge: J Crew Union Suit

Fluffy Slippers

Warm feet are a must when winter hits.  I like to have big, fluffy slippers that feel like I'm floating on a cloud.  I love the colorful pattern of the cheaper ones from American Eagle, but the ones from Madewell are what dreams are made of! (They're also on sale right now..time to treat yourself...)

Save: American Eagle Cozy Sweater Slipper
Splurge: Madewell Colton Slipper

Plush Bathrobe

I've never been a fan of Snuggies, but I love to wear a cozy bathrobe when it's really cold.  It's basically a portable blanket , and even has pockets for some snacks!  I'm pretty much due for a new bathrobe, and I'm pretty sure if I got either one of these I would never take it off.  Would a robe fall into "business casual"?

Save: Ultra Plush Dream Bathrobe
Splurge: Barefoot Dreams CozyChic Robe

Cute(ish) Sweatshirt

On the off chance that I have to run an errand or be out in public (and wearing workout clothes isn't an acceptable option), I like to be comfortable but also look put together. I pretty much live in big, slouchy sweat shirts, and both of these are just cute enough to pass.  I own a baggy beach jumper (ordered off of Hautelook) and it is the most comfortable piece of clothing that I own!

Save: Gap Sparkle Sweater
Splurge: Wildfox Baggy Beach Jumper

Stay Beautiful

Bronzed Eyes

I pretty much wear neutrals year-round, but in the winter I like to make it a bit more special with bronzey, shimmery colors.  Both of the palettes are absolutely gorgeous and feature plenty of beautiful shades.  You can create looks for the holiday party, or for running to the store for more hot chocolate!

Save: Smashbox Full Exposure Travel Palette
note- Jenny commented below that this palette is no good, so I'm going to suggest the bareMinerals Ready Eyeshadow in The Truth in its place!
Splurge: Dior 5-Colour Eyeshadow in Amber Nuit

Glowy Cheeks

I always like a little shine on my cheeks, but I especially love how it looks paired with just-made-snow-ferries-outside rosy cheeks.  Dust a little bit of these multi-colored powders on your cheekbones (and add some on the eyes for a quick look) and you'll look even more radiant!

Save: L'Oreal Lumi Powder Glow in Rose
Splurge: Bobbi Brown Shimmer Bricks in Rose

Dark Lips

I may not be the most adventurous with lipstick, but I do occasionally pull out some darker colors in the winter.  Something about wearing a cozy sweater and scarves makes me want to change my normal nude lipstick to something more daring!  I love the formula for both the Rimmel and Bite lipsticks, and these colors look absolutely gorgeous!

Save: Rimmel Lipstick in 107
Splurge: Bite Beauty Lipstick in Boysenberry

Vampy Nails

To go with the dark lips, I also like dark nails.  This is a bit more in my comfort zone, so I experiment a lot with fun colors in the winter.  I love the super unique shade of the Marc Jacobs polish, and I've always been a fan of Sally Hansen's line.  Just a few swipes and you're chic and sassy!

Save: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Grease Lightening
Splurge: Marc Jacobs Enamored Hi-Shine in Nirvana

  1. You always find awesome products! Luckily I don't have to ask for anything winter specific (thanks, Florida) but I would like a new pair of boots/booties to wear out with jeans.

  8. I don't get to go to any Christmas parties this year. I'm so sad. :( I feel like I need to make a stay at home mom's party. Well, there is this super rich lady throwing one this Friday after school but it's going to be a room filled with women who don't cuss or drink too much. Maybe I'll bring a water bottle filled with vodka and sext Andrew from a comfy floral printed chair in a corner by the fine cheese table.

  9. I'm making my five things Friday post this week about my Christmas wish list! all fitness related things (because really, those are my favorite gifts). I don't wear makeup in the summer at all, so by the time winter rolls around, I have to look into getting new makeup - I'm pretty simple though.. a good liquid foundation & some neutral eyeshadow for day to day & eyeliner/mascara & i'm good to go! - I'm going to a family friend's for Xmas eve this year- they are so much fun... Love these posts you do! Have a great week!

  12. Hey, as a frequent traveler I have that Smashbox palette and just wanted to warn you that the quality on most of the colors is pretty terrible! They're super chalky and because it's so small, prone to chipping/breaking. I about pitched mine after my trip home for Thanksgiving and I still might when I do my annual January makeup purge. Just an FYI!!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Oh man! Everyone on youtube was raving about the palette so I was ready to buy it! Then again, they're all probably sent the product for free or paid to review it so I shouldn't trust them. So glad that you let me know. I added a disclaimer above so no one picks it up :) Thanks for saying something!!

    2. Mine is a few years old, so maybe they improved them? But definitely check it out in a store first!! :)
